Tim graduated with an arts law degree from Macquarie University in 1980 and was one of the inaugural law graduates from that University. He was admitted to practice on 11 July 1980 as a solicitor attorney and proctor of the New South Wales Supreme Court.

Tim commenced his career as an employed solicitor in the Illawarra region specialising in workers compensation litigation. From there he returned to Sydney where he undertook similar work and eventually found himself working in Ashfield practising in a diverse range of legal disciplines.

In August 1987, Tim went into practice for himself as a sole practitioner in Concord where he has continued to practice and honing his skills and knowledge.

On 13 December 1995, Tim was appointed a Public Notary in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Tim has been a member of the Law Society of New South Wales since 1980.
